Clinical Analysis of Omphalocele



Abstract
During the past 14 years beginning from January 1970 to December 1983, 22 patients of the omphalocele were treated at the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Yonsei University Medical College. The authors carried out clinical analysis of these 22 patients, and the results were obtained as follows:
1) The sex distribution was 16 males and 6 females with a significant high incidence in male with ratio of 2. 7: 1.

2) High incidence of prematurely and low birth weight were observed.
3) Associated anomaly was 46% of which 50% was cardiovascular anomaly.
4) Prematurely and nonoperative management significantly affected the survival of omphalocele sex, low birth weight and associated anomaly had no relation to survival of ompha-locele. 5) Major cause of death were respiratory failure and sepsis.
